Mr. Sanjay G. Mungur

Sanjay G. Mungur is the Founder and CEO of Empretec Mauritius. A graduate of the University of Nottingham with a degree Engineering in Production Engineering and Production Management, he has built an advisory and entrepreneurial career spanning more than 25 years in entrepreneurship, SME development, business facilitation, investment and access to finance.

Under his leadership, Empretec Mauritius supports entrepreneurs and growing businesses through experiential training, business development advisory and technical assistance. As a not-for-profit organisation, it also helps SMEs build networks and reach new local and regional markets.

Since 1998, Sanjay has led or contributed to more than 325 projects in over 22 countries, primarily in Africa, for organisations including UNCTAD, UNDP, the African Development Bank Group, the European Commission, SADC, COMESA and the Indian Ocean Commission. In 2017, he led the team that developed the Government of Mauritius’ 10-Year Master Plan for the SME Sector.

His work with entrepreneurs and SME support agencies revealed a persistent obstacle: businesses with strong potential and sound human resources supports often could not secure finance when they needed it. In response, he founded FinClub, Mauritius’ first licensed peer-to-peer lending platform, connecting borrowers and investors through a digital marketplace. Building on its experience in Mauritius, FinClub is currently aiming to scale into four other African countries.
