Mr. Simon O'Connell
BIOGRAPHY
Simon O’Connell is the CEO of SNV, a global development partner operating across Africa and Asia with more than 1,600 staff focused on transforming agri-food, energy, and water systems. With over 25 years of experience in international development, he is committed to advancing sustainable and equitable livelihoods, particularly in fragile and conflict-affected contexts.
Before joining SNV, O’Connell spent more than 12 years with Mercy Corps, serving in country, regional, and executive leadership roles. His work emphasized building partnerships among development organizations, governments, and the private sector, especially in volatile environments.
Having lived and worked in Africa for nearly two decades, as well as in parts of the Middle East and Asia, he has extensive expertise in humanitarian response and community development. O’Connell is also a recognized advocate for sustainable development, a frequent speaker and writer, and has advised initiatives linked to the World Economic Forum and the World Bank. He lives in the Netherlands with his family.
