BIOGRAPHY
H.E. João António da Costa Mira Gomes has served as Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Portugal to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva since February 2025. A career diplomat since joining the Portuguese Diplomatic Service in 1984, he holds a Law degree from the Portuguese Catholic University.
Prior to his current post, he was Ambassador of Portugal to Spain, Germany and NATO, and served as Secretary of State for National Defence and Maritime Affairs from 2006 to 2009. Throughout his distinguished career, he has held a number of senior diplomatic positions in Europe and internationally, with extensive experience in foreign policy, security and multilateral affairs.
