The Dialogue will bring together senior representatives from leading carbon exchanges, standards bodies, green finance institutions and international organizations across Asia, Africa, the Americas and the Middle East to discuss how carbon markets can support the implementation of the Paris Agreement and advance sustainable development in developing and least developed countries. At a time when Article 6 of the Paris Agreement is moving toward full implementation, carbon markets represent a critical opportunity for mobilizing private climate finance, channeling investment into climate and development projects, and advancing sustainable development in developing and least developed countries. Achieving this potential calls for collective action to address market fragmentation, strengthen integrity and transparency, and ensure the meaningful participation of developing countries in international carbon trading. The event will include discussions on Article 6 implementation, market integrity and transparency, interoperability across registries and exchanges, harmonization of standards and methodologies, and the full and effective participation of developing countries in international carbon markets. The Dialogue will serve as a platform for building consensus, sharing best practices, and agreeing on concrete workstreams to strengthen the global carbon market architecture, with particular attention to expanding access and opportunity for developing countries and the Global South. Expanding opportunities for developing countries by strengthening investment readiness, access to finance and connections with buyers so that developing countries can capture a greater share of carbon markets benefits. Closer cooperation among governments, financial institutions, businesses, and market organizations can help address fragmentation and unlock investment opportunities.
