UNCTAD, together with the Ministries of Finance and Commerce of China, hosted a High Level Conference on Guidelines for Responsible Sovereign Lending and Borrowing in Xiamen, China on 8 September 2010.
This was an occasion for Ministers, senior representatives of international organizations, members of the private sector and civil society, along with academics, to share their views on a set of draft guidelines to establish internationally recognized principles that promote responsible sovereign lending and borrowing practices.
The conference was opened by the Secretary-General of UNCTAD, Dr. Supachai Panitchpakdi and a Norwegian official at ministerial-level. Ministers, high-level officials and experts discussed a set of proposed principles aiming to guide responsible sovereign lending and borrowing.
The conference was held in Xiamen, China on 8 September 2010 as a part of the UNCTAD World Investment Forum, which took place during the China International Fair on Trade and Investment (CIFIT), a well respected and prominent international forum. Panelists included Ministers, senior representatives of international organizations, the private sector, civil society and academics.
