Mr. Paul Currie

BIOGRAPHY
Paul Currie serves as the Director of Urban Systems at ICLEI Africa. His passion lies in unraveling the intricate relationships that shape each city's distinct character. Armed with a Sustainable Development MPhil and ongoing doctoral research, he employs lenses like urban metabolism, resource nexus, and political ecology to shape sustainable and inclusive cities. At ICLEI, Paul aids local governments in adopting systems perspectives for food, water, energy, and nature, crafting policies for uncertain times. Having grown up in New York and Johannesburg, his fascination with cities runs deep. He chairs ICLEI Africa's Research working group, orchestrates the annual RISE Africa event, and co-hosts circularity, food, and water portfolios. He's also an extraordinary lecturer at Stellenbosch University and a youth climate activist network member. Paul's aim is to enhance resource productivity, equity, urban planning, and sustainable development in global cities.
