Mr. Mohammad Usman Piracha

Mr. Piracha is an international legal expert and negotiator. He led Pakistan’s delegation on Investor-State Dispute Settlement (ISDS) reforms at the OIC and UN, going on to chair the 57 Member State OIC Intergovernmental ISDS Expert Group Meetings, 2022. From Lagos to New York, Usman is a frequent guest speaker at imminent international law forums. 

Most notably, Usman assisted in the Tethyan Copper Company Ltd. Vs Pakistan (Riko Dig) dispute. By facilitating to secure one of the largest out-of-court investor-state award settlement, he helped avoid a penalty to the tune of 11 billion USD against Pakistan. His professional experience includes working in Litigation at the London Head Office of Linklaters - a top global law firm and the US Court of International Trade, New York City.

Completing his academic journey in the US with a Master of Laws from an Ivy League University, Usman gained his prior legal education from renowned universities in England (Master of Laws and Common Professional Examinations from City University and the University of Sussex respectively). 

Where Mr. Piracha has worked in three legal jurisdictions (US, England & Wales and Pakistan), he is otherwise a polymath. Usman explored the impact of foreign direct investment on developing countries for his Masters degree in Management (University of Edinburgh, Scotland), and was a researcher at CERN Labs - credited with the discovery of the Higgs boson particle, during his graduate studies in Computer Science (NUST, Pakistan). 

Born and raised in Pakistan, Mr. Piracha has gained rich cross cultural exposure; fueled by multiple road trips and the pursuit of academic and professional excellence over the last two decades which brought him to call three continents his home.
