BIOGRAPHY

Andrew is a senior economist who has been working on foreign direct investment (FDI) statistics in the UK’s Office for National Statistics since November 2016. He now leads the analysis of FDI statistics, which in 2020 included FDI in digital industries. He has also pioneered approaches to analysing bilateral asymmetries in FDI statistics through the co-ordinated secure exchange of microdata with selected European countries. His current research agenda has supported the development of sub-national FDI statistics, analysis of mergers and acquisitions activity during the COVID-19 pandemic and identifying microdata-linking projects for new insights into the role of foreign-owned companies in the UK. Andrew has supported work on the IMF’s Direct Investment Task Teams and is part of the OECD’s Benchmark Technical Experts Group for updating international guidance on compiling FDI statistics.
