H.E. Ambassador Isiaka Abdulqadir Imam
BIOGRAPHY
Ambassador Isiaka Abdulqadir Imam assumed the position of the Secretary-General of the D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation (D-8) on 01 January 2022. He is the fifth Secretary-General of D-8.
Ambassador Imam holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from the American University in Cairo, Egypt. After graduation in 1985, he joined Nigeria’s oldest bank, First Bank Nigeria, Limited, where he had a stint as a banker before joining the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 1993.
In his distinguished diplomatic career in the Foreign Service of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, he served as Charge d’Affaires ad-interim at the Nigerian Embassy in Brasilia, Brazil. He had also served meritoriously in different capacities in Nigeria’s Diplomatic Missions in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Pretoria, South Africa and Tokyo, Japan.
At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Headquarters, Abuja, Ambassador Imam had worked in several Departments and Divisions, which include Bilateral and Multi-lateral Departments and later as Director in charge of the Economic, Trade and Investment Department of the Ministry. He was conferred with the title of Ambassador in-situ by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, H.E. President Muhammadu Buhari in Council in 2020.
