RESILIENT, GREEN AND INCLUSIVE ENTREPRENEURSHIP FOR POST-COVID-19 RESURGENCE [VIRTUAL] (in partnership with UNITAR)
This virtual event occurs in Geneva Time (CET, GMT+2). Abu Dhabi, UAE time is 2:00 hours ahead of Geneva, Switzerland.
The new coronavirus pandemic is having unprecedented impacts across the globe, especially on human health and economic activities. In this context, governments are intensifying their efforts to combat the global spread of COVID-19 by enacting various measures to support public health systems, safeguard the economy and ensure public order and safety. Likewise, entrepreneurs have looked for creative solutions to keep their activities afloat, addressing different challenges they are experiencing. The downturn in the global economy following this huge sanitary and health crisis represents unprecedented challenges but provides opportunities as well.
This session aims at providing insights for policymakers and entrepreneurs to better understand and navigate this unprecedented situation and build a sustainable entrepreneurial ecosystem. It will take stock of the series of precedent webinars organized with UNITAR in 2020 and 2021 on the role of entrepreneurship for post-COVID-19 resurgence as part of the UNDA project “Global Initiative toward Post-COVID-19 resurgence in the MSME sector”. It will be an occasion to summarize prior discussions on the role of entrepreneurship in resilient, green and inclusive economic recovery. This roundtable will bring together entrepreneurs, experts and policymakers to debate on the policy reforms needed to enhance the role of entrepreneurship in sustainable recovery and advancing the Sustainable Development Goal agenda.
The objective of these discussions is to identify and analyse the main impacts of COVID-19 on entrepreneurs and micro small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), and the efficiency of the support measures. The roundtable will provide an opportunity for an intermediate impact assessment of the disruption, help identify a set of priority policies and measures for immediate basic re-opening measures for small business-owners, in order to facilitate resurgence, and develop a longer- term social and green economic recovery strategy where the entrepreneurship and MSMEs play a central role leaving no one behind.
Issues to be addressed:
- What role are entrepreneurs and MSMEs playing in post COVID-19 resilient, green and inclusive recovery? How can their role be further enhanced?
- How can government policies promote and facilitate resilient, green and inclusive entrepreneurship and MSMEs in post COVID-19 resurgence?
- What are the key challenges and good practices?
- Are there new business models that have evolved to adapt to this crisis?
