Tourism is a major source of growth, employment and foreign exchange for many developing economies, and can also stimulate investment in transport, energy, digital connectivity and other essential infrastructure. Foreign direct investment can strengthen this contribution by bringing capital, technology, managerial expertise and sustainability standards, while creating opportunities for local firms and communities. This session will examine how tourism-related investment can support more resilient, inclusive and sustainable development. Bringing together policymakers, development finance institutions, international organizations and industry leaders, the discussion will explore partnership and financing models that can reduce investment risks, strengthen linkages between foreign investors and domestic enterprises, and expand the development benefits of tourism investment. Particular attention will be given to how tourism FDI can catalyze investment in sustainable and resilient infrastructure, while supporting local value creation, economic diversification and responsible business practices.
