In line with the policy recommendations of UNCTAD’s 2025 Review of Maritime Transport, which calls for continued port development through digitalization and decarbonization, this event seeks to enable the sharing of best practices amongst the TrainForTrade port community. By addressing the challenges linked to investment in the port sector, especially within the Global South, it creates an opportunity to build knowledge for developing sustainable port strategies for the future.

The shift towards electrified port infrastructure is reshaping global port operations by reducing dependency on fossil fuels and improving environmental performance. Ports that fail to adapt quickly risk being left behind as demand for green fuels and electrified operations grow.

Investment in digitalization and energy transition is no longer an option — it is essential for ports. The interconnected nature of fleet modernization and port readiness means that failing to invest could undermine the port's ability to remain resilient and competitive.
