For the global finance system to speed delivery of the UNSDGs and dramatically scale up climate capital flows to least developed and middle-income economies, blended finance will be key tool during the 21st Century. This session explores leveraging private finance through blended financial instruments, mechanisms, and risk-sharing facilities beyond individual transactions.
There are significant opportunities to open the flow of blended finance to support communities to build sustainable futures through community infrastructure such as pay-as-you-go distributed and decentralized infrastructure for energy, sanitation, and resilience. Localizing blended finance requires a focus on standardized contracts, venture philanthropy, innovative corporate venture and institutional investor partnerships, and broad-based sustainable finance competencies.
Session themes:
- Is the current approach to blended finance too timid?
- Are there more effective mechanisms to blend public and private capital through new standards, structures, systems and securitization of more diverse pools of finance?
