BIOGRAPHY

Norman Loayza is Director of the Global Indicators Group of the World Bank. Since 2020, he oversees the production of the flagship data and reports, Women, Business and the LawEnterprise Surveys, and the global and subnational Business Ready (the successor to the discontinued Doing Business). From 2015 to 2020, he led the Asia hub of the Development Research Group. Before this assignment, he directed the World Development Report 2014: Risk and Opportunity – Managing Risk for Development. Mr. Loayza joined the World Bank in 1994 and served most of his career in the Development Research Group. His research covers various areas of economic and social development, including economic growth, macroeconomics, resilience, and the business environment. He has edited or written 11 books and published about 50 papers in professional journals and volumes. He is an associate editor of the World Bank Economic Review. Mr. Loayza holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Harvard University.
