Dr. Subhransu Sekhar Acharya

Dr. Subhransu S Acharya is ‘Chief General Manager’ with SIDBI. Dr. Acharya is currently heading 4 very important Verticals within SIDBI which includes “Programs for Development & Impact Vertical”, “MSME Cluster Development Vertical” etc. He is a British Chevening Scholar in Sustainable Development, a Ph.D in Management, Post Graduate in Science [M.Sc.], a Post Graduate in Business Administration [MBA] and a Certified Associate of Indian Institute of Banking & Finance [CAIIB]. He has experience of about 32 years in varied facets of MSME investments and development finance including Start Up Innovation and Incubation, Entrepreneurship Development, Micro-Finance etc. He is also the CEO of SIDBI’s Corporate Social Responsibility Foundation.

He had started a specialized rating agency SMERA Ratings Ltd. for MSMEs in India way back in 2005. He has also served as the CEO of India SME Technology Services Ltd. [ISTSL]”, a Company promoted by SIDBI and 4 other Public Sector Banks for promoting technology services for Indian MSME sector. 

He had led an intensive Financial Inclusion program titled ‘Poor State Inclusive Growth Program’ [PSIG] funded through ‘Department for International Development (now FCDO)’, UK and aimed to ensure poor and vulnerable people in low-income states (especially women) benefit from economic growth through better access to financial services. The project aimed to reach 12 million poor households with financial services and support 5 million women clients to testify improvements in social status and mobility.

He was head of SIDBI’s training institute that imparts a variety of capacity building programs to officers from SIDBI, NABARD, Commercial Banks, officers from State Rural Livelihood missions. Dr. Acharya was invited by World Bank to discuss India’s SME development financing story at Harare, Zimbabwe. Dr. Acharya has authored a book on Start Up Innovation & Incubation titled “Seed to Sapling: An Incubator way”. Dr. Acharya has several publications / articles published in various journals to his credit.
