Dr. Beatriz Calzada Olvera

Beatriz Calzada Olvera is an economics researcher and lecturer at the Erasmus University Rotterdam's Institute for Housing and Urban Development (IHS) and is an affiliated researcher at the United Nations University - Maastricht Economic and Social Research Institute on Innovation and Technology (UNU-MERIT). 

In 2022, she earned her Ph.D. in Economics and Policy Studies in Technical Change from Maastricht University School of Business and Economics/UNU-MERIT. Her doctoral dissertation delved into the relationship between natural resources, particularly energy and mining industries, and their impact on structural change. 

With a strong focus on innovation and development economics, her research also encompasses various aspects like local economic growth, industrial organization, trade, global value chains, inequality, and economic resilience.  

She has also worked on consultancy projects for multilateral organizations, such as the German Cooperation Agency and the Inter-American Development Bank.
